foot work

I've been in the habit of walking
from Penn Station to Greenwich Village
on either 7th or 8th avenue.
About 30 minutes,
perhaps 40 if I stop here and there
to take some photographs.
This morning I decided to take
10th avenue instead.
It's been a while.
Which was good.
Because I discovered new things.
I'm sure 7th avenue is still full of pictures to be taken.
It's just that when you get into a habit,
getting used to the scenery,
you stop seeing it.
It's like when traveling.
Always snap away because that first impression,
the novelty,
is soon going away,
and you simply don't see the same things again.
The exotic becomes familiar.
The new gets old.
