my daily wok

There's only a few steps
between my work and my wok.
This little whole in the wall in
159 Christopher Street is
friendly, cheap and tasty.

evening rush in new york

A face in the crowd.
Penn Station: 500,000 people per day.
Grand Central: 700,000 people per day.
On average.
The people who feed the city, and feed off it.
Rushing in to the city early in the morning and throughout the day.
Rushing back at night.
Cursing over the delays,
the apologies for the inconvenience.
Pushing down the stairs to the platform.
Must get on the train first.
To get a seat.
Tired.

another new york morning

I especially like mornings in New York City.
The people of the city preparing for a new day.
Wherever in the world I've lived: Gothenburgh,
Stockholm, Singapore, Hongkong,
Bangkok, Tokyo, Amsterdam and New York I've always found
mornings and evenings the most interesting parts of the day.
It's often when light is most interesting as well.
The shadows are longer, the air clearer.

foot work

I've been in the habit of walking
from Penn Station to Greenwich Village
on either 7th or 8th avenue.
About 30 minutes,
perhaps 40 if I stop here and there
to take some photographs.
This morning I decided to take
10th avenue instead.
It's been a while.
Which was good.
Because I discovered new things.
I'm sure 7th avenue is still full of pictures to be taken.
It's just that when you get into a habit,
getting used to the scenery,
you stop seeing it.
It's like when traveling.
Always snap away because that first impression,
the novelty,
is soon going away,
and you simply don't see the same things again.
The exotic becomes familiar.
The new gets old.

A plain bagel and a large coffee, please

one spoon of sugar
and a little milk.
Breakfast on the run.
It's New York.
